The Not-So-Sweet Sound of Snoring

teeth straightening, clear braces, cosmetic dentistry, rochester hills

Snoring – the universally-recognized sound of someone peacefully asleep. But if you’re the one AWAKE to hear the snores, sleep is a hard thing to come by.  Roughly 45% of  adults snore at least occasionally and, outside of the lack of sleep for their bedtime partner, it’s usually not a concern.

In some cases, however, it can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea which makes the snorer stop breathing for anywhere from two seconds to up to two minutes at a time.

IMG_0718The EMA® (Elastic Mandibular Advancement) oral appliance is a removable appliance created for the treatment of snoring and diagnosed Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). It was created to prevent snoring  and relieve the symptoms of OSA.

The EMA® oral appliance is designed to move the lower jaw, or mandible, forward and open the bite to lessen the restriction of airflow during sleep.  It has many advancement options with nine strap lengths and four different elastic tension options.  It does not interfere with breathing through the mouth.

If you have concerns about your own snoring or someone in your family, contact us to find out more about the EMA® oral appliance and if it is right for you.
